TEHRAN (FNA) - Zambia’s former President Kenneth Kaunda lauded Iran’s support for the oppressed people of the world.

“Iran and its people are harbingers of defense for the oppressed people of the world,” Kaunda said in a meeting with Iranian President’s Advisor in Cultural Affairs Mehdi Safavi here in Tehran on Monday.
Kenneth Kaunda, who is in Tehran upon an invitation by the International Islamic Peace Society, said he carried the Zambian President’s message for peace and friendship and expansion of cultural and scientific ties with Iran.
“Zambian people are specifically interested in promoting and expanding all-out ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he noted.
The Iranian President’s advisor, for his part, praised Kaunda’s significant role in independence and freedom of Zambia as well as eradication of Apartheid in the country.
Earlier on Sunday, Kaunda met with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would increase in various fields.
He added that Africa is willing to use Iran’s experience in establishment of research institutes to control chronic diseases, considering the remarkable scientific developments in various fields in Iran.
